Yoga Blocks
When it comes to practicing yoga, there are a few props that are essential for a quality yoga experience. While the yoga mat is the most notable prop and probably the most necessary, one that often gets over looked are yoga blocks. Now, these blocks are not exactly necessary, however, they have been known to really enhance yoga for a lot of people.
When you buy yoga blocks, you can purchase just one if you would like, and it can help with your poses, etc. but typically having two is ideal because you have much more versatility in your positions with two blocks.
The yoga block actually helps you to be able to perform more poses than you could typically do without blocks. You usually stand on the platform and your arms end up on the floor or another block and this helps you to get a more well rounded, higher intensity workout if that is what you desire.
So obviously these blocks can help the seasoned yoga practitioner to enhance their yoga experience, but what about the yoga rookie you ask? Well, yoga blocks can actually be incredibly useful for beginners as well. They can help assist you in accomplishing difficult positions and poses, allowing you to get a feel for the pose and helping you to build up the strength that you will need in order to complete the pose without the yoga block.
These props, so to speak, are available in a variety of different materials. Cork yoga blocks are very popular, and are obviously made of cork, and foam yoga blocks are popular as well, and they are made out of…what else? Foam! You can also make your own blocks with a bit of research and craftsmanship.
All in all, it is a good idea if you are serious about yoga and have not yet tried using yoga blocks, to go out and get yourself one or two, and try practicing with them, you will immediately realize that you have been cheating yourself by not using them sooner.
